Dirty Dancing

2007_4_swing.jpgHere's the scenario: you're out at the bar enjoying some beverages, great music, and the company of friends. The music combined with beverage consumption leads to dancing. Before you know it, you're being swept to the dance floor, thrown in the air in an attempt at a swing dance maneuver and then dropped on your head, sustaining a skull fracture and brain injuries, leading to a lawsuit. Who hasn't been there?

In a case of bad dancing gone worse, 22-year-old Lacey Hindman found herself in just that situation. While out for a work party at Stanley's in Lincoln Park, she was allegedly grabbed by the forearms and flipped in the air "jitterbug-style." The dance move ended with Hindman hitting the wood floor on her head.

Hindman's dancing partner-in-crime was David Prange, the husband of her boss, fashion designer Kate Prange. Kate owns the women's clothing boutique Shop Girl where Hindman worked.

Hindman was taken home by a store manager. The pain did not subside and a baseball-sized lump developed on the back of her head. That's when she headed to the hospital and was found to have a fractured skull and unspecified brain injuries.

Hindeman is suing Prange for "negligent dancing," seeking damages for her medical bills, lost wages from time off of work and future losses due to her injuries.
