Chicagoist Talks Funny

Chicagoist has said before (and will probably say again) that we love television. But it’s not often that we get to be on the other side of the box. Last night we got the chance to be the guest on “Talkin’ Funny,” the brainchild of Steve Gadlin, Paul Luikart and Blewt Productions.
We’ve talked about these guys before; they produce one of the best comedy shows in town, Don’t Spit The Water, a show much like "Make Me Laugh." They also produced a very successful run of Impress These Apes, a sort of "Project Runway" for improvisers that will be back this summer.
“Talkin’ Funny” is on Chicago Access Network Television (channel 21 for Chicago-proper peeps) on Tuesday nights at 7:30 p.m. It’s pretty much Gadlin and Luikart’s characters from Don’t Spit The Water, Sasha and the Noob. Sasha talks in a strange sort of Romanian/Russian accent and the Noob, well … he doesn’t speak much at all. Sasha and the Noob have built up quite a following on cable access, one that we got to see first hand.
We were pretty nervous heading into our guest spot, but realized right quick we had nothing to be nervous about. The studio at CAN-TV was tiny — we’re not sure what we were expecting — but it was so casual, it put us more at ease. As we watched Gadlin and Luikart, we felt even more relaxed, who can be nervous around these guys?
The callers were hilarious, asking funny questions and obviously happy to see Sasha and the Noob back where they belong. But alas, show rather than tell, right? If you are so inclined, please to watch last night’s "Talkin' Funny," with guest, Margaret Hicks.
You can see Don't Spit The Water on Saturdays, 10:30 p.m., open run, at The Playground Theater, 3209 N. Halsted. 866-208-6296.
