You Tell Me

Welcome to You Tell Me, where Chicagoist opens our eyes and ears to the good music fans of Chicago for suggestions on what to check out, and where, this week. Here’s the basic idea:

You’re in a totally killer post-punk band. Your boy/girlfriend is in jazz trio. Your roommate’s cousin has this great funk collective that plays every Wednesday night at a dive in Uptown. You know they’re out there because you’ve got a personal connection, but up until now ... not many other people have taken notice. That’s all changing right here, because Chicagoist is up to the challenge of getting out on the streets and checking out your music picks every week.

So the floor is open, friends: let us know what the best show this week is – the one that we won’t find touted in the entertainment sections of the local rags. Tell us who’s playing, how you know ‘em, where/when/how much the show is, and why it deserves to be Chicagoist’s You Tell Me pick of the week. Each Monday we’ll solicit your suggestions and choose a show to check out, and by the following Monday you’ll have a report on the whole experience - the music and showmanship, the ambiance of the club, and the reaction of the crowd.

Get on it, Chicago. Our iCal is drooling at the opportunity to get underneath the shiny skin of what our town’s music scene has become and make some delicious new sonic discoveries.
