Now That's a Good Idea!

image.jpgNot everyone has the resources, time, pennies, bonds or forethought to plan at least eighteen years ahead when their baby is born. That's why we think it rocks that good people up top are working toward establish savings accounts for every baby born in Illinois.

The Sargent Shriver National Center on Poverty Law is a part of a statewide coalition pushing for state lawmakers to help create a task force that would look into establishing savings accounts for babies. The task force would look into and eventually recommend options on how to go about creating a savings program.

The idea is to provide families with an incentive to start saving for their child's future at birth. Not only could this increase the chances that a child will grow into an adult that can afford higher education or a home or any number of other things, but studies also show that it could encourage a wholly different mindset for the future while the kid moves through the present.

We figure that's no secret, but man, what a great idea. Sure, there will always be some people inclined to just take the money and buy, you know, toilet roll dispensers that make a foghorn noise when you touch them, but many others will have a chance to go to college or start a business or something else that they otherwise couldn't have. The possibilities are endless.
