Chicagoist Wayback Machine: The Same, Only Different.

One of the things that we like the most about the city is the fact that even though high-rises and condo towers are being developed everywhere you look, parts of the past are always visible.
Many of us take the skyline for granted - it's hard for us to imagine it being any different, just because it's always been there, right? Pretty soon, we're not going to be able to imagine what the Chicago skyline was like without Trump Tower and the Calatrava Spire. So we got a kick out of the above picture of Michigan and Wacker in 1941.
And today?
Looks a bit different, doesn't it? But still immediately recognizable, of course. Sure, it's hard to find Monarch Beer nowadays (nice sign in the lower left, though) but it's nice that no matter how often the city changes, many things see fit to stick around for a while.
