Oh, Troutman, We Totally Knew Ye

By Alicia Dorr in News on Jun 20, 2007 5:58PM

As we wrote about on Friday, Arenda Troutman was formally indicted for accepting bribes while in office. And although the 20th ward voters already made up their minds about her, we just wanted to point out that she's pleading not guilty.

10697375_240X180.jpgObviously, we shouldn't be surprised since she's been maintaining her innocence all along. But now that she isn't an alderman (hey, voting works after all!), we think it's less upsetting and more fun to watch the years-long debacle continue to unravel. Aside from her predictable but consistent denial of the charges, now the prosecutor's office is considering bringing her up on more charges.

Troutman still calls it entrapment that the person she allegedly took the bribe from in exchange for writing a letter to city departments on behalf of the developer was working undercover as part of an investigation, but that's a stretch. Given her other outlandish behavior, she must think she's got the best damn lawyer in the world. The only thing she has said "supporting" her denial of the charges — what District Attorney Shapiro called "a civics lesson" — was that "most politicians are hos." Well, that may be true, but we really don't think it's in your interest to say or think it ever again.
