If you're one of the lucky ones to secure reservations to Ambria this evening, congratulations. The legendary Lincoln Park restaurant closes this evening 27 years of operation. But you probably knew that.
Diners lucky to score reservations this evening will be treated to a $150, eight-course dinner including duck pate. Duck pate, eh? Makes one wonder if the pate might be made of a certain delicacy banned in the city.
Ambria founding chef Gabriel Sotelino said that the time is right to shutter Ambria, citing a desire to "leave when you're at the top." Zagat's 2006 listing of the city's best restaurants ranks Ambria as Chicago's eighth-best restaurant for food. Lettuce Entertain You chairman Rich Melman, which owns Ambria, has plans to transform the space into a high-end seafood concept under the helm of chef Laurent Gras, who created the chicken liver "faux gras" at Tru.
