2007_07_sports_bears_traini.giftraining camp! Players arrived at Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais yesterday ahead of today's first practice.

The Bears enter camp as reigning NFC Champs, and with the expectations of winning the Super Bowl this season. Can they overcome the fate of the past five Super Bowl losers, who have gone a combined 33-47 the following season? They seem to realize the difficulty of repeating but see the ultimate goal of winning the Super Bowl is within reach for this team. Their mantra for the 2007 season: ''Unfinished business.''

While another run at the Super Bowl looks realistic, there are certainly areas of concern for the Bears. But by reaching an agreement with Lance Briggs, as well as inking a deal with second round draft pick Dan Bazuin, the Bears open camp with everybody signed and ready -- no messy holdouts to create gratuitous drama. That's a good start. Of course, they also open camp with Rex Grossman as their starting QB.

Between now and their September 9 opener in San Diego we'll learn a lot more about the Bears and their prospects for bringing another Lombardi trophy to Chicago.

For those fans who want to make the one hour trek down to Bourbonnais, the Bears have a variety fan-focused events planned over the next couple weeks -- kids autograph days, armed forces day and a family night planned. Admission to training camp is even free!
