Dancers Get Their Pool On

2007_09_seldoms.gifWhen we first heard about the GIANT FIX/dance in a pool event created by The Seldoms, we immediately thought of the McCarren Park pool events in Brooklyn, but after delving in a little deeper, we learned that The Seldoms is not some indie-rock band, but is instead a pretty forward-thinking local dance troupe.

So basically, they've drained the Hamlin Park Pool and are turning into a surreal field of movement and whimsy, including six dancers wearing "cubist-inspired sculptural costumes" The program also includes original colored-oil-and-water animated projections and will be set to a live improvised musical score.

We're always on the lookout for new and interesting ways to frame familiar arts, and this certainly seems like a doozy.

The Seldoms will perform GIANT FIX/dance in a pool in the Hamlin Park Pool at 7:30 p.m. from September 27-30. Tickets are $15 for general admission and $12 for students and seniors.
