2007_10_yolatengo.jpgAsk any dirty record-store clerk who's worth his weight in vinyl who the most influential bands in "indie rock" are, and Yo La Tengo will be near or at the top of their list. The Freewheelin' Yo La Tengo is the ballsy moniker of the New Jersey band's current tour, and it's said to be part Storytellers, part Unplugged.

The influential foursome's unusual marriage of punk, folk, shoegaze, electronica, and sprawling, noise-heavy jamming may not have brought substantial sales, but Yo La Tengo has enjoyed resounding critical acclaim almost from the start.

Thursday's two shows at the Lakeshore Theater will feature Ira Kaplan and crew delving deep into the group's annals, semi-acoustic style, filling in the gaps with intimate stories about the life, influences, and the lasting impact of their band. Sounds cool, right? We've got a pair of tickets to the show for a lucky Chicagoist reader, so enter below for your chance to check out this cozy show.
