CTA Woes Continue...

By Margaret Lyons in News on Oct 10, 2007 11:14PM

2007_10_10.cta.jpgAnother day, another quote from the CTA that has us shakin' in our boots. Ron Huberman, whom the Red Eye dubbed "Mr. CTA" yesterday, announced today that the CTA's budget won't be out until Friday--later than planned--because the State hasn't made any progress on funding reform. Plus we've had enough bad news for one day...right? Today's CTA board meeting was cut short so Huberman et al could go work on last-minute budget stuff, but the meeting will resume Monday morning. Do we smell a live blog? Oh boy, do we.

Huberman told reporters that the new budget will "scare a lot of people," which isn't the kind of confidence we like to hear from our leaders. Inspire us, Ron Huberman! As it stands now, fare increases and service cuts will go into effect November 4, but come January, things could get even worse. According to the Trib, "entire rail lines may be shut down and bus service would be scaled back."
