Tommie Harris Says Guns Are Bad

2007_10_sports_tommie_harri.jpgWe'd have thought that seeing the guy lining up next to him on the field each week lose his job would maybe send the message that guns are bad news, but it took seeing a local newscast about the shooting death of 10-year-old Arthur Jones for Harris to decide he needed to do something about the violence.

He told the press on Thursday:

There are kids who want a way out or want to learn or they want the ability but you have to show them. There's [9] million people in the [Chicagoland area], more than enough people that can come together. The men in the neighborhood, or other people who can step up and come out of their comfort zones and help. I'm willing. I just want others to be able to. I believe if we can get this rolling we can see some change in the community.

For those who have suggestions on how to help reduce violence in Chicago, Harris asks that you send suggestions to his website. Maybe, if your suggestion is really good, he'll even become your MySpace friend!

Or, if you've got any other suggestions for cause bandwagons that other Bears players can climb aboard, share 'em in the comments.
