Puppy Thieves Raid South Side Store

OMG, you guys: Puppy thief! Burglars broke into a pet store on 80th and Cicero Saturday night and stole at least 17 puppies. The thieves broke the front window at Pet Luv Pet Center, and apparently filled a plastic garbage can with golden retrievers, boxers, beagles and huskies, a Shih Tzu, a puggle and a Pekingese. The store's owners don't know why the alarm didn't go off or why the security cameras in the store stopped working. Other people are thinking about a barrel of puppies right now ... right?
These are pricey pooches, with the most expensive costing around $1,000, so the estimated value of the entire lot is about $15,000. Pet Luv's owner says she thinks the dogs will be sold on the black market.
We'll take this chance to remind you that November is Adopt a Senior Pet Month. If you've been thinking about adding an animal companion to your life, Chicagoist heartily endorses going the mature pet route. Pictured is Honey, a senior Pekingese, and she's available for adoption, along with hundreds of other dogs in the city.
