The Business of Portion Control?

By Chuck Sudo in Food on Jan 7, 2008 10:19PM

2008_01_altereatgo.jpgFrom today’s Sun-Times: joining the ranks of Weight Watchers (sorry, “don’t call it a diet”, although Valerie Bertinelli on the Jenny Craig plan is looking fierce these days), NutriSystem, and Seattle Sutton in town are the Mike George Fitness System personal chef Program and Alter EatGo.

The latter is the idea of entrepreneur Eric Meredith, whose clients pay for their weekly meals up front online. Alter EatGo targets African Americans with 1,000, 2,000 and 3,000 calorie-per-day meal packages, great for folks who don't have time to prepare meals at home or feel they lack the requisite culinary skills, or want to work on portion control. Although we wonder how serious one considers the latter if they're ordering the 3,000 calorie-a-day option.

It got us to thinking - as we dug into our barbecued seitan sandwich at Blind Faith in Evanston this afternoon and were barely able to hold the glorious mess in two hands - that it must be nice to live in a country where even vegetarians can be obese.
