Like Father Like Son?

21st Ward Alderman Howard Brookins accepted Jesse Jackson's endorsement for Cook County State's attorney Sunday at Jackson's South Side Rainbow/PUSH headquarters.
A Chicago Tribune/WGN-TV poll published today shows that there is no clear front-runner in the race for State's Attorney, and most of the county's Democratic power brokers have stayed out of the race. Jesse Jackson Jr endorsed Larry Suffredin earlier this year, ostensibly as part of the on-going feud between the Jacksons and Bill Beavers. The more likely scenario, however, is that Jr wants to build his credibility among white lakefront liberals should he ever decide to run for mayor. Nonetheless, Jesse Jackson has high hopes for Brookins. “I expect him to put Jon Burge in jail,” Jackson told reporters, perhaps hoping for a judicial miracle since the statute of limitations has already expired on that case. US Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald began an investigation last year into whether Burge or his detectives lied under oath during investigations in subsequent civil suits in the torture and abuse cases.
