Theater:
There is A LOT of theater in Chicago, and it's often nigh impossible to select what shows you want to take in. Well, how about if you could catch a glimpse of what each show had to offer? that's the concept behind the Speed Theater Open House at the Victory Gardens Greenhouse Theater. Check out a bunch of bite-sized chunks of forthcoming off-Loop shows and help make the decision of what to see this season a teensy bit easier.

2257 N. Lincoln, 6 p.m., FREE!, RRSVP to Sarah Moeller at smoeller [at] victorygardens [dot] org or 773.549.5788

Animal Welfare:
Treehouse Animal Foundation and Alley Cat Allies offer a workshop today on dealing with stray cats in the community. Learn how to catch the kitties, bring them in for the proper medical attention (and, ahem, a quick neuter/spay session) and return them safely to their home locales.

1629 N Ashland Ave, 1 p.m. Call 773-507-1300 for more information.

Food/Drink:
It's wine Wednesday at Viand. All bottles of wine are half price, so you can get twice as sloshed. Erm, no, that's not how that works. Actually it's a great opportunity to try a variety of wines and sample the restaurant's wine selection, even if you're working off a tight budget.

155 E Ontario, 5 p.m. until 1 a.m.

Music:
Wes Hollywood has been slinging out his own brand of mod influenced pop with a rock and/or roll crunch for years. He recently ditched his old band moniker in favor of the new, sleeker tenniscourts, but the pop smarts are still in full attendance. He plays Schubas tonight with the equally excellent, and like minded in a more laid back vein, Bon Mots.

13159 N Southport Ave, 9:00 p.m., 18+, $8
