Ghostland Observatory Pursues Twisted Strains of Dance

Ghostland Observatory

One could be forgiven for the overwhelming feeling that there are just too many disco-dance rock hybrid bands out there. Because, well, there are, and like any other oversaturated genre the majority of groups copping the dance-rock sound are doing so in truly generic fashion.

That's why when singular voices rise above the din created by so much mediocrity, the ears prick in grateful alarm. Such is the case with Austin's Ghostland Observatory as they unleash their third album, Robotique Majestique. This duo fashions glam-inspired electro-rockers that conjure up images of blood spattered disco balls. Their sounds owes much to the disco-punk that crept out of Williamsburg in the early aughts, but instead of sounding like a bad fashion retread the new disc thunders along marvelously, sweetening measures with tip-toeing synths when needed, and laying down echo-laden drums as counterpoints.

So, throw on a neckerchief and prepare to commence hip-swinging.
