Your Dose of Dance

By Amy Mikel in Arts & Entertainment on Feb 27, 2008 7:40PM

We sometimes wonder how many people think seeing a dance performance will be something like out of The Big Lebowski. But considering the depth and versatility of the Chicago dance scene, finding a dance show really becomes a matter of how you prefer to be entertained, rather than expecting to be disappointed.

Chicago Dance CrashChicago Dance Crash = fun. This is a completely unique dance experience that really works for both newbies and regulars to the dance scene. An improv dance competition held in eliminating rounds, Dance Crash company members must play off each other and work the audience in order to procure the Keeper of The Floor (KTF) Championship belt. Chicago Dance Crash recently secured a monthly residency at The Lakeshore Theater, which means this: regular KTF Championship performances (the first Friday of every month), loyal fans, solid audience turnout, and growing popularity.

Every Dance Crash performance we have seen has turned into some bizarre version of street fighting, except with dance moves. The company members try to “serve” each other, the audience gets rowdy, and everyone has a grand old time.

As with all improv entertainment, you can never be sure exactly what you are going to get. But with a solid cast of professional dancers, the freedom to bring your drinks into the theater, and a $10 ticket price, it’s worth it.

3175 N. Broadway, Friday 10 p.m., 21+, $10
