Chicagoist's "Beer of the Week": Bitburger

Take that shot in, will you? Just look at that stein filled with the proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy. Sometimes you have to keep your beer simple, but not too much.

There are a lot of reasons that should not be featuring Bitburger in the "BotW" series. But two moments in the past two weeks override all the arguments against it. The first was the way the crispness of this beer made for the perfect palate cleanser. It wrapped itself around the salty perfection of Eleven City Diner's pastrami on rye, wiping the slate clean for another bite. With sping on the way, something like Bitburger is the perfect tonic for those balmy April weekends.

The second was seeing Bitburger in sixteen-ounce tallboy cans at a party Friday night. It reminded us of simpler times, like switching to the cans after we drank the Pontiac dry of Bell's Oberon at the Chicagoist second anniversary show. It's unoffensive, palatable, and goes down easy. It's cheap without tasting so.

So we'll just keep it short and sweet this week. Bitburger is Chicagoist's "Beer of the Week."
