Breathing Underwater, Living Under Glass

bellagio%20lobby.gifThis Thursday, The Glass Experience opens at the Museum of Science and Industry. We are super excited to see work by artisans like Dale Chihuly and Tiffany, among others, and maybe Benjy can go pant at the pieces by Frank Lloyd Wright. Glass pieces from renowned schools and studios from around the world will also be on display.

Admittedly, all we really know about glass is that they use special glass for stunts in movies, but hey! The exhibit includes an explanation of the science behind glass, as well as a tour of its history and influence within society.

The Glass Experience will also get you a trip to the “hot shop,” where you can see master glassmakers turn hot molten glass into vases and bowls, a glass blowing demonstration, and a glass restoration exhibit by Botti Glass Studio. The exhibition runs through September, so there will be plenty of time to meander on over for your glass schooling.

Note on the image: Chihuly, one of the exhibits’s featured artists, designed and supervised the creation of the lobby ceiling of the Bellagio Hotel in Vegas. This is something you simply have to see with your own eyes – it’s absolutely beautiful. You can also check out Chihuly’s work in the lobby of the Four Points Hotel on the Magnificent Mile.

MSI, March 13 through September 1, exhibition price not included in general admission / museum members free.
