Friends of Chicagoist Schadenfreude is launching a new television project with Channel 11 called "IL-Informed" and they're taping the pilot at the WTTW studios starting today from noon-4 p.m. (They'll also be taping tomorrow and Wednesday). You can be part of the live studio audience by calling 773-509-5494 or e-mail rtlguest@wttw.com.
Music
Apparently the folks at Pitchfork don't like guitar solos, anthemic choruses or other arena rock conceits. We came of age during the hair metal era, so it doesn't phase us. It's probably what drew us to British Sea Power, although you'll still find traces of their signature melodies and post-punk roots on the new Do You Like Rock Music (Rough Trade). The tour in support of that record brings them to the Empty Bottle for two shows this evening. Chicagoist faves the 1900s open.
8 p.m. and 11 p.m., $13 cover.
Clubs
Monday nights are usually reserved in the service industry as "industry night." You'll find bartenders and servers by the score decompressing at the newly launched "Foreplay" residency at Funky Buddha. It isn't just reserved for workers, however. So feel free to head down and enjoy the Monday night drink specials.
Wine
Spanish wines are some of our favorites; we never pass up an opportunity to have a glass of rioja. Because the grapes aren't what casual drinkers are accustomed to seeing on shelves, however, Spanish wines are woefully underappreciated. Lush Wine & Spirits' "School of Lush" series this evening focuses on Spanish wines, in the process making the country's selections more accessible to the casual drinker.
1306 S. Halsted, 7:30 - 9 p.m., $30.
