$35 Movie Theater in South Barrington

By Margaret Lyons in Arts & Entertainment on Mar 27, 2008 9:55PM

2008_3_27.goldclasscinema.jpgMovies are increasingly expensive, or as I originally typed it, "exponsive," and there's no where to go but up, especially if you live in South Barrington. Come October, the town will be home to a Gold Class Cinema, one of those high-end luxury movie theaters with chichi chairs where they douse your popcorn in liquid gold and the floor is sticky from imported sodas. Admission? $35.

Gold Class Cinemas, an Australian company, will be opening around 50 such theaters across the US in the next five years. The theaters feature cushy recliners, waitstaff serving fancy food, "super wide" screens and a 40-person max audience. The noisy website is pretty annoying, but who doesn't want to watch movies while draped in jewels and wearing an evening gown? Hell, that's what we're doing right now. [Hollywood Reporter]
