Unplug Your Phantom Load

Earth Hour, the global movement bringing awareness to power consumption that we told you about earlier this week, is only a few hours away.
Sponsored by the World Wildlife Fund, Chicago is one of the official cities participating. As such, you can expect a darker than normal skyline tonight. Earth Hour hits Chicago at 8 p.m. local time. Sydney was the first major city to participate earlier today, with its iconic opera house going dark for the hour, along with other famous city landmarks.
During the one-hour event, Sydney was noticeably darker, though it was not a complete blackout. The business district was mostly dark; organizers said 250 of the 350 commercial buildings there had pledged to shut off their lights completely, and 94 of the top 100 companies on the Australian stock exchange were also participating. It’s not too late to join the movement; pledge to not only turn down out your lights, but unplug your phantom load.
