More local news mayhem. CBS 2 on-air employees Mary Ann Childers, Katie McCall and Rafael Romo were among the 18 people whose positions were eliminated today at the station.

From the Trib:

"There's certainly some staff reductions that are taking place," President and General Manager Joe Ahern said this afternoon. "We're not unique in the economic environments we're all involved in. The Tribune, the Sun-Times, Newsweek, ABC in network news, many, many others have gone through these reviews of staffing and resources in order to adjust to the economic conditions."

Childers was until today the station's medical editor and "special projects reporter." She joined WBBM in 1994 as an anchor and reporter, and according to her CBS bio, she was "the first female to anchor a leading 10:00 PM newscast in Chicago" when she was at WLS. [S-T, Trib]
