- Since Gabriel Magliaro launched Half Acre Beer last fall he's been working around the city tirelessly promoting it. The Heartland Café is the newest and northern-most account for Half Acre. In honor of the achievement, on April 26th Magliaro will walk a case of Half Acre from
MontroseMonroe Harbor to the Heartland at 7000 N. Glenwood, a distance of nearly nine miles. The "Half Acre Hike" is a sponsored event benefiting First Slice Chicago, a non-profit dedicated to feeding hungry children. Let's hope Magliaro really ices that beer down. - The New York times had a wonderful article in yesterday's about how farmers are pulling land they previously set aside for guaranteed payments from the Federal government's conservation program in favor of the more substantial payoff they could make growing crops at a time of record high grain prices. It's an interesting read about a once-useful program that has become antiquated, with pro-farming and pro-conservation groups fighting over an rapidly shrinking amount of land. It could also be seen as an indictment on our recent focus on growing corn for ethanol, which is spurring price increases across the board.
- Rosscoe's blinked and agreed to change its name. That was fast. Now if they can just improve the service and food.
- Via TOC, Red Bull is launching a new, highly caffeinated cola. Let's hope it doesn't taste like the flagship product.
