Bring On Summer
By Margaret Lyons in Miscellaneous on May 23, 2008 9:27PM
Or at least a three-day weekend. Memorial Day is the unofficial start of summer, and boy are we ever ready. These are some of the things we're looking forward to:
- Drinking outside
- Girls in short shorts, shirtless boys
- Being able to walk everywhere and actually enjoying it
- Trips to the dog park
- Late sunsets or more day light or whatever
- Street fests
- Sweating
- Vanilla milkshakes
- Air-conditioned movie theaters
- Homemade Mai Tais
- Obama's keynote speech at the DNC
- Picnics under the stars at the Pritkzer Pavillion
- Fla-vo ice
- Smells of BBQ [Ed note: Heh]
- Walking through alleys again
- Things in the sky - kites, volleyballs, Air and Water Show, Red Bull flutag!
- Dramatically lower gas bills
- A perpetual tan
- Not wearing socks for three months
- Fresh homegrown produce from my landlord's garden.
- The Cubs' collapse
- Sweet tea
- Farmers markets
- Flip-flops
- Enjoying the breeze instead of shuddering at the wind
- Sailing/boating -- making friends with people who own boats is key
- Beach volleyball
- Baseball
- Long Saturday morning bike rides
- Theater on the lake
- Summerdance
- Reunited 80s rock bands at summer festivals
- Al fresco dining
