Police Use CTA Surveillance To Catch Attempted Kidnapper

2008_5_28.el.jpgPolice used surveillance video and tracking info from a suspect's CTA card to locate and arrest him. Shauntaine Curry, 18, was arrested and charged with attempted aggravated kidnapping for allegedly stalking a 12-year-old girl and accosting her outside a Pink Line stop. Witnesses came to the girl's aid, but Curry got away.

Witnesses identified Curry, and Chicago detectives worked with CTA security to download his image as he got on trains at several stops along the Pink Line. A CTA computer search was then able to track Curry -- who was traveling frequently on a seven-day pass -- as he hopped on and off trains, authorities said.

Ooooh, "download his image." High-tech sounding! [S-T, Trib, photo by Stacey Viera]
