New Key Witness In Drew Peterson Gun Case? John Travolta

By Marcus Gilmer in News on May 29, 2008 3:43PM

The Drew Peterson Saga took yet another turn into the surreal yesterday when D-Pete's attorney named a new key witness in his felony gun case: John Travolta. Yes, that John Travolta.

Peterson's publicist released the photo of him in complete SWAT garb getting an autograph from a visiting Travolta, taken in 2000, which D-Pete attorney Joel Brodsky claims shows Peterson carrying the semi-automatic assault rifle that got him arrested last week for having an illegally short barrel, proof that he had permission to use the gun as part of his job. D-Pete and his SWAT team were on their way to a drug bust when they were reassigned to a security detail for Travolta, in town to promote his cinematic triumph, Battlefield Earth. (What was his codename? "Grease Lightning"? [Ed note: No making fun of Grease.]) Brodsky claimed Travolta would be called as a witness, if necessary, saying, "He’ll have to fly into Clow International Airport and testify." Police Chief Ray McGury disputes the claim Peterson had permission to use the gun. Also? The SWAT team was pulled from a drug bust to protect John Travolta.
