2008_06_equal_rights.gifThis year Gay Pride Month in Chicago, a.k.a. June, kicks off with a brand new documentary premiering tonight on WTTW. Out & Proud in Chicago highlights almost 150 years of the city’s LGBT history – from the Civil War era through present day. The documentary serves to illuminate the path to liberation for Chicago’s LBGT community, coupling historical milestones with personal vignettes and individual reflection. From the WTTW pressroom:

"We're working with voices and history, looking to understand and share the stories of those whose courage and sense of personal strength helped shape and change an entire society's concept of what it means to be a fully respected, fully accepted member of the broader human family," offers co-producer Alexandra Silets. "It is our goal to create a work that will illuminate, inform and entertain."

The ninety minute documentary will be hosted by actress and native Chicagoan Jane Lynch, who appeared in Best in Show, The 40-Year-Old-Virgin, and who currently has a reoccurring role on Showtime’s The L Word.

Out & Proud in Chicago debuts tonight on WTTW11 at 7:30 p.m. Rebroadcasts at 6/5, 7:30 p.m., 6/9, 8:00 p.m., and 6/15, 6:00 p.m.
