2008_06_extra.jpgAn update on the Red Line stoppage: a man was struck and killed by a Red Line train just south of the Chinatown stop at about 4:30 p.m., his body still pinned under the train. Red Line trains are once again running on their designated tracks between Howard and Roosevelt, where they then run on the Green Line tracks to the 35th-Bronzeville Green Line station. Violence in the City: A man was shot dead last night while filling his car with gas in Rogers Park, while a 15-year-old CPS student was killed (the 26th CPS student killed since the start of the school-year) and his friend wounded in a Logan Square shooting. Both initially appear to be gang-related. And Chicago police questioned a "person of interest" in connection with April's quintuple murder on the South Side.

Deputy Governor Sheila Nix is stepping down from her position, planning "to spend more time with family before finding another job." [CBS2]

Following last night's accident that resulted in yet another bike rider death, a CTA bus driver was cited for an accident this morning in Lakeview that left a bicyclist hospitalized. [Trib]

"That was just the beginning of an ordeal that included an aborted landing at O'Hare -- where at least one wheel touched down -- and six hours on the tarmac at Gary Chicago International Airport." Yikes. [S-T]
