One Dress, One "Seal:" Your Monday Obama Update

By Karl Klockars in News on Jun 23, 2008 6:37PM

newobamalogo062308.jpgDoes "Change" Extend to the Presidential Seal?: The Obama campaign unveiled a new Barack-centric take on the seal, with an eagle bearing the "O" logo, as well as proclaiming "vero possumus" which The Swamp translates as "truly we're able." As long as everyone else is suggesting preferable Latin to have on the new logo, may we suggest the Royko take on the Chicago motto: "Ubi Est Mea," aka "Where's mine?" For some real hilarity, RedState is trying to convince the waternoggins among us that the "interpretation" of the seal is illegal and that Obama should be arrested. Note to RedState: If he was using the actual seal, you'd have quite a case. But it's not. Sorry.

And Just What Does That Dress Mean: Nothing. But is the Trib trying to sow seeds of subtext in Michelle Obama's $148 White House/Black Market dress choice on the View? In one of the biggest stretches of imagination since the Terrorist Fist Jab, The Trib, referencing a Slate piece, passes on the idea that the choice of dress might have a deeper, racially motivated message. A quick search shows that most people just want to buy the damn thing, and probably don't give a hoot about any possible subliminal ideas.
