2008_07_11_buffet.jpgIt's mid-July which means that many tastings and fixed price dinner events have a Bastille Day theme. Here are a few of note

  • Whole Foods Lakeview (3300 N. Ashland), one of the WFs not shut down with a rodent infestation, is hosting a tasting of seleced wines from local distributor Cream Wine Company from 4-7 p.m. this afternoon.
  • Both Lush Wine and Spirits locations (1257 S. Halsted and 2232 W. Roscoe) are hopping on Bastille Day with a weekend-long celebration of all things French, culminating with $5 crepes from 2-7 p.m. Sunday.
  • The Stan Mansion (2408 N. Kedzie) in Logan Square is the setting for Globally Intrepid Gourmets' Bastille Day dinner from 6-9 p.m. Cost is $40 in advance; $50 at the door. RSVP to 312-919-0060 or e-mail Maureen Sak.
  • Pops for Champagne (601 N. State) has a Bastille Day celebration from 5-8 pm. Monday in their outdoor courtyard featuring over 25 French sparkling wines and appetizers. Cost is $75 per person.
  • Café Matou (1846 N. Milwaukee) is normally closed on Mondays. They're opening this Monday for Bastille Day with a special four-course, fixed price menu for $48 per person.
  • Cyrano's Bistrot and Café on the Riverwalk (233 E. South River Walk Parkway) also has a special four-course "Louis XVI" menu planned, along with musical accompaniment from acordion player Steve Kovac. Cost is $39.95.
  • The one big event not Bastille Day-related this week is Green City Market's annual Chefs' Summer BBQ Festival. The two-hour event from 6-8 p.m. Thursday features dishes from over 50 of the city's top chefs using produce and meats sourced from the market. Tickets to the event are $50 in advance, $60 day-of. Green City Market is located at 1750 N. Clark St.
