Another Week In Crime: Next Verse, Same As The First

Not to sound like a broken record but Sunday night and Monday morning saw a rash of violence to start the week off on the wrong foot.

  • A woman was killed Sunday night in the Back Of The Yards neighborhood, the apparent victim of a "domestic-related" murder. Police were holding a "male friend" in connection to the killing. The woman's body was found in a garage in the 5100 block of South Damen.

  • Dalon Russell, 32, was shot in his car on the edge of Garfield Park late Sunday night. Another car approached Russell's and fired into it, killing him. Police have no suspects at this time and are still working to determine a motive.

  • One man was killed and another injured in an apparent gang-related shooting in the Little Village neighborhood early this morning. The shooting happened in the 2500 block of South Harding Avenue, killing 26 year-old Emilio Tamayo and wounding another man, who is in stable condition at Mt. Sinai Hospital.

  • A man was found shot dead in the street early Monday morning in the 6600 block of South Michigan Avenue.

  • Shots were fired at a police car on routine patrol near Kosciuszko Park Sunday night. No one was hurt by the shooting and police did not return fire. A suspect is currently being held in the incident.

  • Other violent crime deaths this weekend:
    a 38-year-old woman at a Ukrainian Village bar, a 26-year-old man on a Roseland street, an 18-year-old in a drive-by shooting on the South Side and another 18-year-old in south suburban Chicago Heights. In addition, a 31-year-old man died of head trauma after an assault on a Southwest Side street.
