Orton To Start First Preseason Game

2008_08_orton_grossman.jpgCoach Lovie Smith says not to read anything into it, but Kyle Orton will start at quarterback for the Bears when they host the Kansas City Chiefs at Soldier Field tomorrow evening.

Lovie's game plan calls for Rex Grossman to play in the first half also, and the Bears first team offense will remain in the game until intermission so that both QBs get a chance to work with them.

The quarterbacks vying for the starting job will flip roles in next week's exhibition against Seattle, with Grossman starting and Orton coming in later in the first half.

Will we have any better idea who'll be our starting QB by then? We're not sure what the coaching staff will learn in a couple preseason games that they haven't learned in the regular season over the past few years. If they'd been paying attention, they'd realize their best option is to land Brett Favre and give us a real quarterback for once.
