Chicago Olympians: Day 3

Was anyone else pumped when, during the Men's Basketball game against China yesterday (Dwyane Wade = 19 pts, 2 stl, 2 ast), NBC decided to forgo their usual Olympic-themed background music and instead brought back their old John Tesh-penned "NBA on NBC" theme music? It was worth getting up early for that alone. That wasn't the only excitement from our day of Olympic-watching: later Sunday night (Monday morning, Beijing time) we saw one of our Chicago-related athletes take home a medal.
Results from another day of competition after the jump.
- Women's Swimming - Christine Magnuson (Tinley Park) won the silver medal in the 100m butterfly. Congrats, Christine!
- Men's Swimming - Despite being left off the U.S. relay team that brought home a gold medal in dramatic fashion, Lake Forest's Matt Grevers is still in the hunt for another medal after finishing second in his 100m backstroke semifinal heat. The finals will be tonight, Chicago time. Go, Matt!
- Women's Basketball - After the U.S. men dispatched China on Sunday, it was the women's turn on Monday, defeating the Chinese women 108-63.
Tamika Catchings - 5 pts, 5 reb, 1 ast, 2 stl
Syvlia Fowles - 18 pts, 8 reb, 1 stl, 2 blk
Candace Parker - 12 pts, 5 reb
Cappie Poindexter - 5 pts, 1 reb, 5 ast - Women's Volleyball - After defeating the Japanese in their first match, the Americans couldn't get anything going against Cuba as Ogonna Nnamani and the U.S. women lost in straight sets (25-15, 26-24, 25-17).
