Chicago Olympians: Day 13

Unlucky 13. Foreboding as we come down the home-stretch and find ourselves knee-deep in the team medal rounds. While some teams, like the beach volleyball team of May-Treanor/Walsh won gold for the US, some teams, including one with a few Chicagoans, weren't so lucky, including one absolute shocker. Hey, they can't all be Gold and nothing's wrong with Silver. At least in the opinions of those of us who have never made the Olympics. All the day's Chicago-related results after the jump.
Softball - In the day's absolute stunner, and perhaps one of the biggest upset of this Olympics, the Steamroller that is the U.S. Softball team ran into the brick wall of Japan in the Gold Medal game, losing 3-1. Cat Osterman pitched five innings and gave up 2 runs on three hits while striking out nine. Still, while not bringing home the Gold is a disappointment (it's the first time it's ever happened to the U.S. team), Silver aint bad. Congrats, ladies.
Men's Track & Field - David Neville helped the Americans complete a medal sweep of the 400m by taking the Bronze with a time of 44.80.
Women's Basketball - Team USA outlasted Russia, 67-52, on their way to Saturday's Gold Medal game against the winner of Australia-China.
Tamika Catchings - 4 pts, 8 reb, 2 stl
Syvlia Fowles - 8 pts, 10 reb, 1 ast, 1 stl
Candace Parker - 3 pts, 8 reb
Cappie Poindexter - 2 ast
Women's Indoor Volleyball - Another Team USA advances to the Gold Medal final against Brazil after they defeated Cuba 3-0 (25-20, 25-16, 25-17).
Men's Freestyle Wrestling - Chicagoan Larry Langowski, wrestling for Mexico in the 120kg class, lost his match to Iran's Fardin Masoumi.
