Phils Snap Cubs Streak
The Cubs' seven-game winning streak was snapped yesterday as the Phils beat the North Siders 5-2. Ted Lilly only gave up three runs over six and 2/3 inning, but the Cubs just couldn't take advantage of an eighth inning which saw the Cubs load the bases. The Tao of Lou: "We just didn't hit with men on base -- that's the storyline of that game. You can't do it every day."

White Sox, Buerhle Bashed By BoSox
The Boston Red Sox scored five runs in the first two innings as Mark Buerhle and the White Sox bats struggles, losing 8-2. Overall, Buerhle gave up seven runs over four and 2/3 innings. The bullpen then shut it down, but the damage had been done. A Twins loss helped the White Sox remain in first place in the AL Central.

Northwestern Rolls Past Syracuse
Wildcats QB C.J. Bachér completed 23 of 35 passes for 215 yards and three touchdowns as Northwestern overcame a slow first quarter to top Syracuse, 30-10. Tyrell Sutton rushed for 140 yards for the Wildcats and the NW defense held Syracuse to 226 total yards of offense.

Illinois Falls To Mizzou
No. 20 Illinois put up a fight against the sixth-ranked Mizzou Tigers, but it wasn't enough as the Illini fell 52-42 in a wild game. Mizzou scored 24 points in the second quarter to distance themselves from Illinois. QB Juice Williams had a big game throwing for 452 yards and five touchdowns in a losing effort.

Minnesota Tops Northern Illinois
In spite of a big game from QB Chandler Harnish (17 of 29, 326 yds, 2 TDs) and WR Nathan Palmer (3 rec., 170 yds, 2 TDs) Northern Illinois couldn't put the Minnesota Golden Gophers away, losing 31-27. Five different players got carries for NIU as they tired to establish a running game, but only mustered 72 yards on the ground.
