2008_09_01_gaddy.jpegTragic news in the story of the Humboldt Park girl who was shot in the head Saturday night: according to family members, 13-year-old Eternity Gaddy is brain dead. Eternity and her mother, who currently live in Allentown, Pennsylvania, were visiting family in Humboldt Park this summer. Eternity and her mother were scheduled to leave Chicago to return to Allentown later Sunday morning. According to a cousin who was standing with the girl, four men appeared out of a near-by alley and one began shooting.

Police have recovered surveillance footage from a camera mounted on the apartment building. A motive is still not known, but witnesses reported hearing the gunman and his group yelling gang names as they ran from the scene following the shooting. Police don't know if Eternity was the intended target or not.

"She was supposed to be here for eternity," said her aunt, Ruthie Zayas. "That's the reason we gave her that name."
