Give Back: Childhood Cancer Awareness Month
By Amy Mikel in Arts & Entertainment on Sep 3, 2008 9:08PM
September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and there are a few local events coming up in support of pediatric cancer awareness. If you can't attend any of the below events, but still want to help with the fight against leukemia -- the most common cancer among children and teens -- consider making a bone marrow donation or registering to become a donor at the National Bone Marrow Registry.
September 5 – Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation’s viewing party of the national broadcast of “Stand Up to Cancer” at HUB 51. NBC, ABC, and CBS will simultaneously devote 1 hour of commercial-free prime time to raise funds for the fight against cancer. Support the organization by “Wearing the Bear” or by donating the cost of your usual breakfast and helping to meet this month’s fundraising target of $10,000.
51 W. Hubbard St., Chicago from 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
September 6 – “Kids for the Bear” Kids helping kids day at Bubbles Academy.
1504 N. Fremont, 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., must RSVP at officemanager@bubblesacademy.com
September 18 – Children’s Cause Cancer Advocacy (CCCA) will host its BeCause We Care Cocktail Reception and Silent Auction at the Merchandise Mart. Childhood cancer survivors, oncologists, and a number of other invited guests will attend to learn more about CCCA initiatives, childhood cancer research and survivorship.
