Harsh News For Hearty Boys

By Chuck Sudo in Food on Sep 10, 2008 6:37PM

The City Health Department, acting on a 311 tip of no running water, shut down Hearty Boys Catering today after finding a list of violations, including no hot or cold running water on the premises, a broken walk-in cooler that was failing to hold food at 40 degrees or colder — the cooler was no colder than 57 degrees — and food in the cooler at similarly unsafe temperatures (including cooked pasta, hot dogs and other food). We've placed a call to Hearty Boys co-founder Dan Smith for comment and will update if and when he returns the call.

UPDATE @ 2:30: The Hearty Boys passed their re-inspection and is clear to re-open.

UPDATE @ 3:45 p.m.: Just heard back from Dan Smith. He said that the water was shut off at the main for some maintenance, which not only affected the running water, but also a vegetable cooler with a water-cooled compressor. "I didn't think to hang a 'closed for the day' sign in the window, since our business is mainly catering," Smith said.
