Cheaper Theater

Thanks to the Sun-Times for putting together this great list of ways to save on tickets to local live theater. Harris Theater’s price reduction on tickets for the upcoming ballet is mentioned, as well as the fairly well-known daily drawing for front row seats at Wicked (we won once!) but otherwise it’s a pretty thorough list – recommending both general and theater-specific tactics to help you save money.

Chicagoist racked our brains to try and think of an equally awesome insiders list for general arts events. Here's a few other options:

• If you have a Chicago Public Library card, you can check out free Museum Passports to one of 13 Chicago museums at any CPL branch. There are no holds allowed for passes, and the program seems to be pretty popular, meaning you just have keep checking until the pass you want is available. (The Museum of Science and Industry has tons of free days this month, though).
• If you become a member of the Kerasotes Theater Five Buck Club, you can see movies at Kerasotes Theater locations for only $5 when you flash your membership card, as long as the movie has been playing for a certain number of weeks (usually two). You: fill out online form, they: mail you free card. If you live near the only participating Chicagoland theater at Webster and Clybourn, the deal is probably worth it.
• Similarly, you can purchase a Music Box discount card for $33, good for 5 admissions.
