- Talks to place the $1.1 billion Olympic Village for the 2016 Summer games on the Michael Reese Hospital campus have fallen through, leaving planners scrambling for a new location; without it, the city's bid is incomplete.
- An investigation shows that students-athletes at Simeon Career Academy faced corporal punishment for mistakes made during games.
- Speaking of school controversies, parents who have enrolled their children in the Skinner Classical School in the West Loop are angered by a new proposal being considered by the CPS that would allow neighborhood children to be admitted to the school, fearing it will hurt the school's high standards.
- New data released by the U.S. Census Bureau shows that parents living with adult children who are listed as "head of household" is up 67 percent since 2000. Mom, I love you and Dad, but ya'll gotta stay in 'Bama. Sorry.
- Feel Good Story of the Day: D.J. Slaughter, 6, was left without a means of transport when his $5,000 specialized wheelchair was stolen, along with the family's van. But fear not, readers. Slaughter, who has cerebral palsy, will have a new chair very soon thanks to some generous donations.
