- September 26: Make your way to Funky Buddha for the Fair Trade Fiesta. Support their marathon runners who are raising awareness of Fair Trade issues. Appetizers, a raffle, music, dancing, and all you can drink organic beer and wine. Buy your advance tickets here. 8 - 11 p.m. 722 W. Grand Ave. $35.
- September 27: Rib-A-Que Smoke Out! Don't give up your summer without enjoying some ribs at this event, sponsored by Moonshine and Socca restaurants along with Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey. This rib competition will feature over 10 different Chicago restaurants as well as award-winning amateurs (including winners from the 2008 Memphis BBQ Contest) competing for the title of the “Smoke-out Champion.” Judges include Stephanie Izard and Dale Levitski from Top Chef. Vegan friendly BBQ options will be available for the non-rib-gnawers. Noon - 6 p.m., 1824 W. Division. $25 in advance and $35 at the door (to pre-purchase, click here or call 773-862-8686).
- October 1: Beginning October 1 and continuing on each day the Cubs play until the end of the season, Visit Pops For Champagne and enjoy a flute of Dom Pérignon Vintage 1999 champagne for $19.08 a piece - signifying the last time the Cubs won the MLB World Series exactly a century ago in 1908. That's a good compromise for couples made up of a sports fan and a non-sports (but pro-drinky) fan. Game will be televised in the main champagne bar.
- October 4 and October 18: Join Alliance Française of Chicago for a Family cooking class, ages 7 to 10 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Expose your child to French culture and language through traditional French recipes. Check out more classes here (including Cooking with Cider, Profiteroles, and various wine tasting events). Parent: $45, One Child: $30, Two siblings: $55. 810 N. Dearborn.
Make sure you check out Chuck's entry on Chicago Gourmet and check back over the weekend to hear how this weekend's largest event is going!
