October events include a lot of country-focused events. Oh, and a theatrical S&M and Burlesque Show combined with Dr. Seuss characters. We don't make this stuff up, folks. Check it:
- October 6: Chicago's 11th Annual Finlandia Vodka Cup regional competition kicks off at Krem. Watch some master mixologists compete to win the right to go on to the U.S. Shake Off on November 10 at the Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Spring. 7-9 p..m. 1750 N. Clark.
- October 6-11: Pastapalooza at A Mano Italian Trattoria! Carbo-load at A Mano as they celebrate the marathon with a 3 course dinner for $26.20. $2 of which goes to Girls on the Run-Chicago (a non profit organization that uses running to educate and prepare pre-teen girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living.) 335 N. - October 8: If you enjoy wines from Argentina, check out the Argentinean Wine Dinner at La Madia. It's a five course dinner by Chef and Certified Sommelier Jonathan Fox paired with Argentinean wines by Bodega Vistalba Wineries (sample menu item and pairing: Autumn Squash Ravioli with lemon pistachio gratin and brown butter sauce paired with Tomero Torrontes 2007 and Braised Short Ribs and Carnaroli Risotto with a Vistalba, Corte B, Argentina, 2006.) - October 12: Head North for the Third annual Andersonville Dessert Crawl, featuring some of the best desserts from twenty-four restaurants in Chicago's Andersonville neighborhood and a wine tasting at In Fine Spirits wine bar. - October 13-19: Continue along with Carnivale's Tour of Spain during the week of October 13-19 which will highlight the Galicia and Asturias region in the northwest corner of Spain. During the week, Carnivale presents a menu that highlights the seafood stews, cheeses and empanadas for which the region is famous. 702 W. Fulton
- October 15: Marche will be celebrating its 15 year anniversary with signature dishes, specialty cocktails, a live DJ and ...a Theatrical S&M and Burlesque Show. Oh, and Dr. Seuss Characters! Did you hear that, people? S&M and Dr. Seuss! The curiosity factor alone has me going. 8 p.m. - 2 a.m. 833 W. Randolph. $20 ($5 of which will go to Perspectives Charter Schools).
- October 17-19: Have a French immersion (minus the cost of a plane ticket) at the Lycée Français de Chicago Fall French Market. The Market will have more than 40 vendors, culinary demonstrations from top Chicago chefs, and a Children's Pavilion. Proceeds go to Lycée Français in its mission to provide a dual-language education focused on academic excellence. - October (all month): Marigold restaurant has extended its Taste of India menu to now offer it on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday night. During the month of October, Marigold's Taste of India menu will showcase dishes created by Balbir "Aunty" Malhotra (Co-owner Sandeep Malhotra's mother) from her hometown of India's northern state of Punjab, known for its rich, creamy, and robust cuisine, and the famous Tandoori Chicken. - October (all month): Kohan Japanese Restaurant celebrates Japan's Health and Sports day (which occurs on October 6) and highlights the healthy aspects of sushi for the month with their weekly Tuesday Love Boat specials in addition to their daily lunch buffet featuring unlimited maki at lunch.
