Pencil This In: Weekend Edition

By Amy Mikel in Arts & Entertainment on Oct 16, 2008 4:30PM

General Arts
This year, Around the Coyote’s fall arts festival moves to the West Loop, expanding their offerings of emerging arts talent: 132 visual artists’ booths, literary readings, film screenings and music and theater performances. Check out participating Chicago artist Danielle Klinenberg who, instead of pricing her work, is inviting an open dialog with viewers as to its perceived value, hoping to entice those who – due to current economic times – may be holding on a little tighter to their pocketbooks.
Plumbers Hall, 1340 W. Washington Blvd., 10/17-10/19, day ($10) or weekend ($15), passes can be purchased online.

Film
The Chicago International Film Festival is in full swing, and this unique CIFF event caught our eye: this weekend’s screenings of the Charlie Chapin documentary The Boot Cake will feature a Charlie Chaplin look-alike contest. Contestants will be judged by the film’s director, with the winner receiving a 10-pass to this year’s film festival. Anyone costumed as Chaplin will receive a free pass to the screenings.
AMC River East 21, 322 E Illinois St., screenings 10/17 at 6 p.m. and 10/18 at 3 p.m.
