Your Chicagoist Wants You

By Tankboy in Miscellaneous on Oct 16, 2008 2:25PM

It's that time of year again! Chicagoist would like to add several more people to our staff to fill in some gaps in coverage and make the site even better. If you're interested in writing about the arts, music, books & literature or general Chicago topics, let us know.

2006_08_apply.jpgSpecific positions are listed below. If you're interested in any of them, meet the qualifications, can make the time commitment, and would like to join the Chicagoist team, email applychicagoist(at)gmail(dot)com with the position in
the subject line. In the email, tell us about yourself and why you'd be good on that beat, and throw in a sample post if you like.

Books & Literature
We need someone who knows how to read to cover Books and Literature. When a big, famous author comes to town or a great new book about Chicago (or written by a Chicagoan) gets released, our readers need to know. If you can knock out two posts a week about readin’ then let us know.

Music
We’re looking to add two new writers to our music team. One should be well versed in the world of popular music and hip-hop. You know, you’re a basic rock and/or roll know-it-all that loves the performers on the radio while feeling the need to trumpet the virtues of bands that are not. The other should enjoy writing about the “finer” side of music. They should be familiar with a wide range; everything from the sounds that fill concert halls with glorious noise to thump that shakes up the blues clubs. And hey, if you’re the sort of person who digs and knows just as much about the punk rock as you do the classical, then that’s even better! If you fit any of the above profiles, and can commit to 3-4 posts a week about the wide world of music in Chicago, then let us know.

General Contributors
Finally, we'd like to add a few more contributors to write on a daily basis on general subjects (things that aren't sports, music, film, food, arts, politics — and there are a lot of them!). Most likely you'll be posting on hot news topics of the day.

If you'd like to apply for any of these postitions, send an email to applychicagoist(at)gmail(dot)com and indicate the position you're applying for in the subject line. In the email, tell us about yourself and why you'd be good on that beat, and throw in a sample post if you like. Please only apply if you are able to write quality posts for the site as well as make the time commitment needed every week to research posts and to write them.
