Bark: It’s not Just Peppermint Anymore!

By Anthony Todd in Food on Oct 17, 2008 2:56PM

Bark.jpg Peppermint Bark is one of our favorite confections; it has candy cane bits, white chocolate and milk chocolate all in the same candy! What could be better? Unfortunately, it’s both difficult to obtain (and seasonally inappropriate to some) at anytime other than Christmas. Christmas season IS approaching, but we don’t want to wait for our bark fix. So, when we came across Organic Confections Bark at Candy Expo back in the Spring, we had to “test” it until we couldn’t “test” it any more.

Organic Confections is a line made by Parker Products, and they’re made of premium, organic ingredients. The barks come in a variety of flavors, and this variety was what first caught our eye. Our first taste was of the “Hazelnut Chai” bar – yummy with hazelnut, cinnamon and other spices, with just a hint of cream. The “Milk and Cookies” bar is like the ideal of what an Oreo would like to be, with a mild cookies and cream flavor and a smooth texture. We don’t drink coffee, but the “Coffee and Cream” bar won us over completely – it was the first type we ran out of. The texture of the confection is something close to a smooth white chocolate with candies mixed in for a bite.

There are eight flavors altogether, also including Raspberry and Cream, Sweet and Salty and (for traditionalists) the light Pink Peppermint. The only flavor in the lineup that we didn’t love was the “Pomegranate and Orange” – but some friends did. if you’re in love with Pomegranate, give it a try.

Organic Confections uses eco-friendly packaging and 95% organic ingredients (excluding colors, salt and a few other tidbits). Right now, they’re only available online, in plastic jars. They look small, but they’ll be enough to keep you going for a while… unless you scarf them all down like we did.

You can purchase Organic Confections Bark here through Living Echo. They’re a bit expensive, but we think they’re worth the price. The assortment pack would make a great gift, if you have a candy lover in your orbit. For more info, try the Parker Products information page.
