- A Chicago police officer shot and killed a would-be robber yesterday morning. The attempted robber also happened to be a convicted felon. The Independent Police Review Authority is investigating the shooting.
- Former Cook County judge, Thomas Maloney, who was convicted in 1993 of accepting bribes to fix murder cases, passed away.
- The folks at Brookfield Zoo introduced their newest edition today: a new baby Bornean orangutan. The baby was born on October 6 at the zoo; the Bornean orangutans are an endangered species.
- Veteran newscaster Warner Saunders has announced he will be retiring June 1, 2009. Saunders has been a fixture on Chicago television for almost 40 years and has been at NBC 5 since 1980.
- Halloween is next week and two of the most popular costumes this year are Heath Ledger's incarnation of The Joker and GOP VP candidate Sarah Palin. Our friends at Time Out Chicago decided to see what it would look like if you combined the two.
