- Five men, four from Mt. Prospect and one from Carpentersville, have been charged with rape in the sexual assault of a 17-year-old girl over the weekend at an Elk Grove Village hotel.
- The owner of the El Rey food store in Logan Square was shot and killed late last night.
- Two workers remain in critical condition after the collapse of a scaffolding in River North this morning. One man was pinned by the wreckage while another managed to climb on top of the building they were working on.
- The federal Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program has given the state of Illinois $265 million to help provide heat for low income families this winter.
- One positive note about the financial crisis? More people are visiting libraries. Circulation through September is up 28 percent over the same time period last year. Hooray for libraries!
