Last night's hangover doesn't have to drag into the weekend. Two big upcoming events are planned, one each for oenophiles and beer geeks in mind.

For the wine lovers, the independent restaurant group Chicago Originals is offering $2 glasses of wine as part of its "Restaurant Wine Week." Starting Friday, participating restaurants (the list is here in a huge PDF file) will be pouring their selections through the 14th.

Meanwhile, the Illinois Craft Brewers Guild's 6th Annual Festival of Wood and Barrel Aged Beers takes place Saturday at the Plumbers Local 130 Union Hall (1340 W. Washington). Attendees will have the opportunity to sample selections from over 40 breweries and brewpubs (as of Sunday). The festival is split into two tasting sessions (1-5 p.m. and 6-10 p.m.). The cost is $35 in advance (tickets can be purchased here) or $45 at the door. The ICBG website says that the afternoon session is sold out, but we just managed to buy a ticket for it via the Brown Paper Tickets link.
